Crackdown on traffic rule violators

HUBLI: After a brief respite, the Hubli-Dharwad Police have resumed the drive against those violating traffic and helmet rules.

During the last two days, 1,159 cases were booked and a fine of Rs. 1.35 lakh collected.

A majority of the cases booked in the twin cities over the last two days pertain to violation of the helmet rule. As many as 206 cases were booked on Saturday, and 365 motorcyclists fined on Sunday for not wearing the helmets.

The other cases of fine pertain to driving without valid licence and ferrying more than the permitted number of commuters.

As many as 357 vehicle owners were fined for other violations including jumping traffic signals, speeding and rash driving, and parking vehicles in no parking zones.
