Congress leaders told not to misguide people

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: The Davangere unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) has taken exception to the reported remarks of Congress leader and Davangere MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa that the Janata Dal (Secular) would support the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections here and the party president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, would make an announcement in this regard in the next two days.

At a meeting of office-bearers and workers of the district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) here on Wednesday, working president of the party Satish Kolenahalli said that Congress leaders should not misguide people.

Mr. Gowda had made it clear that the JD (S) would not support the Congress in the elections, he said and added that that was why the party had fielded Kallerudresh from the constituency. Mr. Kolenahalli called upon party workers to ensure victory of the party candidate.

President of the district unit of the party Daskariyappa ruled out possibility of any understanding between the Congress and the JD(S) in Davangere. Mr. Kallerudresh was very much in the race, he added.

He told Congress leaders not to make such “irresponsible” statements in their bid to mobilise support to the party.

Munna Pilwan, Vishwanath and T. Oscar were among the leaders who participated in the meeting.

However, Mr. Kallerudresh was not present at the meeting. In fact, Mr. Kallerudresh has not been campaigning since the last few days.
