DHARWAD: Hundreds of people led by former minister and Congress leader S.R. Morey staged a protest march here on Wednesday alleging that the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government had failed on many fronts.

The protest march began from the Kadapa Maidan and passed through main thoroughfares before reaching the Deputy Commissioner’s Office where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the State Governor.

The placards and banners displayed by the protestors highlighted the failure of the coalition Government on distribution of BPL cards and Ashraya houses. They had also urged the State Government to stop the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation from reversing an earlier resolution to reduce the water tariff.

Addressing the protestors, Mr. Morey charged the Government with depriving poor people of various facilities by delaying the distribution of below poverty line ration cards.

Former mayors of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Hanumanthappa Betageri, Mangalagouri Agnihotri, I.M. Javali criticised the coalition Government and warned of launching an intensified agitation if the problems were not redressed within a month.
