Concern over lack of opportunities for young film-makers in Goa

PANAJI: “Goans should not remain mere spectators at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). There should be more active participation of Goans, and there should be more Goan films at IFFI,” Goan film-maker Laxmikant Shetgaonkar said on Friday.

Mr. Shetgaonkar was speaking at a function to felicitate him for his achievements in cinema.

Actor Shabana Azmi felicitated him on behalf of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), State’s entertainment body, in the city. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Chief Executive Officer of ESG Manoj Srivatsava were present.

Mr. Shetgaonkar recently won the FIPRESCI Critics Award in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for his Konkani film “Paltadcho Munis”.

The Chief Minister presented a cheque for Rs. 25 lakh to Mr. Shetgaonkar. Scriptwriter of the film Mahableshwar Sail was also honoured.
