Commissioner appeals to people

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner P. Manivannan, who is also the Commissioner of Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has appealed to citizens’ groups to desist from protesting or lobbying against his transfer.

In a release, he said that postings and transfer of officials were the prerogative of the Government and he was bound by its order and directions.

Public protest

Mr. Manivannan’s reactions come in the wake of widespread public protest and pressure by various organisations against his transfer to Shimoga, which, however, was temporarily set aside by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

The cititizens’ groups and organisations had staged a series of demonstrations urging the Government to retain Mr. Manivannan in Mysore.

Mr. Manivannan pointed out that “any agitation or lobbying for retention by certain organisations may be interpreted in different ways and may affect the functioning of the post of both MUDA and MCC Commissioner and the staff”.

At the same time Mr. Manivannan expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Mysore,

He said that it would spur him to work harder for the people of the city.
