Colourful events mark Basava Jayanti

MYSORE: A procession carrying the idol of Basaveshwara was taken out in the city on Thursday to mark Basava Jayanti. A large number of people and folk artistes participated in the procession which commenced from Basaveshwara Circle near the administrative office of JSS Mahavidyapeeta and ended at Kalamandira, where a function was organised.

The Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha and the Federation of Basava Balagas had organised the celebrations. Siddamalla Neelakanta Swamiji flagged off the procession.

A Nandi Dwaja puja was performed before the procession began. Seers of various Veerashaiva maths, including Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math, the candidates contesting the elections from the constituencies in the city and leaders of various political outfits participated in the procession.
