Children’s choice of colours surprises many



GULBARGA: For a change, the portals of the Vikasa Soudha, housing government offices filled with schoolchildren here on Saturday. The occasion was a painting contest organised to mark 60th Independence Day celebrations.

The surprise visitor to the painting camp organised by the Chittari Foundation on “India of my dreams” was Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur. Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik and legislators Raju Gowda, Viswanath Patil Hebbal, M.Y. Patil, Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, and Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat P.C. Jaffer accompanied him. Mr. Darshanapur not only appreciated the Chittari Foundation for organising the painting camp, but also joined more than 2,000 schoolchildren in preparing a sketch on the theme.

The schoolchildren were given asingle drawing sheet of 3,100 feet length.

Communal amity was the most chosen topic. Many drew portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose. Director of the Chittari Foundation V.N. Chittari said the paintings would be exhibited at the Bal Bhavan Auditoriumfrom August 14 to 31.
