Chain-snatchers strike again

Two gold chains estimated at Rs. 2 lakh were snatched within 12 hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning at two places here.

Motorcycle-borne miscreants, two men, attacked an elderly woman in front of her house off Kodigehalli Gate Road in Sathya Sai Layout here on Thursday and robbed her of her chain estimated at Rs. 1.2 lakh. The K.R. Puram police gave the name of the victim as Indiramma (60). According to the police, she was standing in front of her house, at 9 a.m., anticipating a tender-coconut vendor when the miscreants committed the crime. Another chain-snatching incident was reported in the Peenya police station limits on Wednesday night. Uma Shridhar, a resident of Vidyaranyapura, was robbed of her chain estimated at Rs. 80,000 to two men. The Peenya police said that the victim was passing by a private security company when the accused snatched her chain at 10.30 p.m.

Electrocuted

A 27-year-old worker died when he was electrocuted in a plastic recycling unit in Byatarayanapura police station limits here on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Mahesh, a native of Uppulageri Koppalu in Malavalli taluk. The tragedy occurred at Polymer Plastic Factory at Ambedkar Nagar near Nayandanahalli Railway Station Road around 8.30 p.m. The victim touched a livewire when working at the recycling unit. The police have registered a case of negligence against the factory owner Gajendra.

Murder solved

A woman and her paramour were arrested here on August 2 for allegedly murdering a mason. The Yelahanka police gave names of the arrested as Lakshmamma Muthappa (40) and her paramour K. Narayana Reddy (23).
