Officials refuse to verify their certificates

Raichur: Candidates selected for the posts of primary school teacher staged a dharna and picketed the office of the Deputy Secretary of the zilla panchayat here on Monday demanding that he verify their academic certificates immediately and prepare a list of appointed candidates.

About 100 candidates from Tumkur, Davangere, Mandya, Shimoga, Gadag and Dharwad, whose names had been notified in the provisional list of teachers selected for primary schools in the district, went to the office of the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) here to submit their academic certificates for verification.

According to a notification, the Education Department fixed December 26 as the deadline to submit certificates.

But the officials at the office of the DDPI refused to accept their certificates stating that verification would commence only on Wednesday.

The dates for verification of certificates based on category and subjects had been displayed on the notice board of the office, they said.

According to the circular, the candidates selected as per the provisional list had to approach the office between December 26 and January 2 to submit their original certificates for verification, the officials said. The candidates requested the officials to verify their certificates on Monday as notified by the Department of Education.

Delay

However, the officials stated that the delay in declaring CET results in the district had forced the department here to postpone the verification process and it would now be held between December 26 and January 2.

The candidates should go by the revised notification, they added. The candidates went to the zilla panchayat complex and staged a dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Secretary of the zilla panchayat, R. Amaresh Naik, urging him to set right their problem.

They picketed the official and threatened to continue their dharna if no immediate solution was found to their problem.

They withdrew their protest when Mr. Amaresh told them that the department would proceed with the revised notification and promised to provide hostel facility for candidates whose verification of certificates was on Wednesday.
