Bijapur records 39 per cent turnout

Staff Correspondent

Bijapur: Bijapur Lok Sabha constituency recorded approximately 39 per cent voter turnout here on Thursday.

The main reasons for decrease in polling percentage compared to the last Lok Sabha elections were the deletion of names from the voters’ lists and people having to collect drinking water.

Since Bijapur city received drinking water after a fortnight, people in most of the localities were busy storing waterand did not go to the polling booths.

In the Babaleshwar Assembly segment, names of over 200 voters were deleted from the voters’ list without citing any reason. In all the eight Assembly segments, polling was higher in areas where people belonging to the backward classes and minority communities were more in number.
