BJP workers demand Kalmadi's resignation

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists staged a demonstration here demanding the resignation of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi. Calling Mr. Kalmadi the “king of corruption”, the BJP supporters said that by encouraging corruption in the Games, the Congress MP has let down the prestige and honour of his hometown Pune. “Pune is a cultural city, where eminent nationalists such as Lokmanya Tilak were born. But it is unfortunate that the ‘king of corruption and deceit', Mr. Kalmadi, who hails from Pune too, is sitting in Delhi,” said Vikas Mathkari, a BJP activist. The protesters later burnt Mr. Kalmadi's effigy, which was earlier garlanded by a string of currency notes.
