Party wants its State president to be a unanimous choice

Udupi: President of the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) D.V. Sadananda Gowda said on Monday that the party would select its candidates for three Legislative Council seats after the polls to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the budget session of the legislature.

Mr. Gowda told presspersons that nominations for the post of president of the State unit of the BJP would be filed on January 28. All efforts would be made to have an unanimous choice.

Besides Araga Jnanendra, C.T. Ravi, Prahlad Joshi and Vijay Shankar, there are many other contenders for the president’s post. The criterion for selection is that the new president should be capable of taking everyone along, he said.

On the resignation of Janata Dal (Secular) leader Thippanna from the Council, Mr. Gowda said that the BJP was being targeted for anything that was happening in other parties.

Mr. Thippanna had resigned on his own. He might have liked the BJP as a political party or its style of functioning in the State, he said. He said that he was satisfied with his work as president of the State unit of the BJP.
