Raichur: Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane (JMS) staged a protest here on Wednesday to protest against the attack on a pub in Mangalore.

The members, led by D.S. Sharanabasava, secretary of the district unit of the DYFI, and H. Padma, convener of the district unit of the JMS, staged a protest on the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises. They raised slogans condemning the attack by activists of the Sri Rama Sene.

They submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Governor, to municipal tahsildar Shashikala.

In the memorandum, they said that activists of the sene had assaulted men and women at the pub on the pretext of “protecting Indian culture”. The sene members could have informed the police if there was any illegal activity in the pub.

They urged the Governor to initiate measures to ban the sene and punish those behind the attack.
