MYSORE: A new gallery showcasing the paintings of artist Asha Prasad will be inaugurated here on Sunday.

Described as a phenomenon among the skilled artists in the country, Ms. Asha has made her foray into Mysore only recently. Ms. Prasad’s gallery will be open to the public following a formal inauguration by V.A. Deshpande, dean, Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), and in the presence of Commissioner of Police S. Parashivamurthhy and other dignitaries at 5.30 p.m.

Art and painting comes naturally to Ms. Asha, who had developed a passion for it since childhood. She honed her skills under the guidance of Kasturi in Lucknow and went on to master the intricacies of watercolours before moving on to oil painting, both on canvas and plywood.

Known to experiment with colours and equally at home with sketches, Ms. Asha’s first exhibition was a copy of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Two girls at the Piano”, showcased at Himachal Bhavan in New Delhi. The art gallery is located at 3 1063, AIISH Layout, Bogadi 2nd Stage, behind Amritanandamayi School, Mysore.
