Arogya Kavacha launched in Gadag

GADAG: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa inaugurated the Arogya Kavacha health scheme in Gadag district on Saturday.

Mr. Yeddyurappa left the venue soon after lighting the lamp to mark the inauguration of the scheme, as he had to attend a function in Bangalore.

Addressing the gathering, Minister for Health and Family Welfare B. Sriramulu said that the scheme would be implemented in six phases and the Government had sanctioned Rs. 221 crore for its implementation till 2011. The Minister said that under the scheme 517 ambulances were required across the State. Five ambulances had been allotted to Gadag district. He appealed to the public to make use of the emergency healthcare facility by dialling the toll-free number 108.

Mr. Sriramulu said that the Government had appointed 815 doctors across the State. The remaining vacant posts, including 25 in Gadag district, would be filled soon, he said.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister C.C. Patil spoke. MLA Shirshailappa Bidarur presided over the function.
