Amateur theatre groups come together

BANGALORE: Several amateur theatre groups will come together to stage their new productions in the city at the Nataka Bengluru Rangabhoomi Sambrama.

The festival will take place at Ravindra Kalakshetra from October 5 to 22 and at the Ranga Shankara from November 24 to December 10.

Well-known directors such as Suresh Anagalli, B.V. Rajaram and Srinivasaprabhu as well as young talent will stage as many as 15 plays which will involve a total of over 100 technicians and 500 artistes.

Says K.V. Nagaraj Murthy, chief convenor, Nataka Bengluru 09, “Amateur theatre groups that strived to achieve professionalism and present the products before the drama lovers are facing a financial crisis. Drastic experiments are being made by the enthusiastic new theatre groups with the talented young directors and it is the support of theatre lovers that is keeping theatre activities alive.

With the success of the previous festival held last October, like-minded city-based theatre groups are prepared to present their new productions in this festival.”
