Acquisition of land opposed

Hassan: Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh held a meeting with residents of Gavenahalli and Bommanaikanahalli at his office in Hassan on Thursday. The residents the two villages that are located in the outskirts of Hassan are refusing to part with their lands for the proposed Special Industrial Zone to be developed by the State Government.

The Government proposes to pay Rs. 8 lakh per acre of land. But, the land rates are as high as Rs. 1.5 lakh per Gunta (40 Guntas make one acre).

The representatives of the two villages Obe Gowda, Rangaswamy, Suresh and Satish Patel said at the meeting that they are all small land holders who own half-an-acre to one acre of land. And, that they do not want to part with their lands because their livelihood is dependent on it.
