Children take out a procession to create awareness against environmental degradation

Karwar: “This earth belongs to us, do not destroy it and do not snatch nature from us” was the slogan by children in Karwar on Wednesday. Children from different schools took out a procession in Karwar against the destruction of environment and urged people not to disturb nature and endanger the earth with pollution.

This unique protest by the children reached the office of the Deputy Commissioner where they created awareness among the people through a street play.

Students held placards saying they have an equal right to nature and that the earth did not belong only to the elders.

Addressing the children, V.N. Nayak, Professor of Marine Biology Centre of Karnatak University, said it is a warning to the people who are contributing to global warming by destroying forests. He said that if the destruction of nature continues then the sea level may go up affecting the entire population.

Narasimhamurthy, in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district, lauded the children for their efforts to create awareness among the people against destroying nature. He said it is the responsibility of every human being to save earth.

The municipal Commissioner and municipal president participated in the human chain formed by the children in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office to show their solidarity with the children in protecting nature and environment.
