Many a seminar, a fest and a visit to a flood-hit district marked student life

HUBLI: Extra-curricular activities in the form of workshops and interactive sessions with resource persons continued in educational institutions in the twin cities during the last week.

Students from the two cities also won many prizes in various competitions held during the period.

With the aim of preparing the students of commerce and management for their summer in-plant projects, the Department of Management Studies of SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, had organised a one-day workshop on “Preparation for summer project report”.

Inaugurating the workshop, which saw students from several colleges participating, Nayanatara S. Nayak, in-charge Director of the Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Research (CMDR), Dharwad, stressed the need for providing more exposure to students of tier-2 cities. Elaborating on the importance of a well-structured questionnaire while collecting primary data, she asked the students to be ethical while conducting research. Secretary of SDME Society Jinendra Prasad and Director of the college M.N. Sudheendra Rao were present.

The resource person for the workshop, Basavaraj Benni, Professor of Economics, Sinhagad Institute of Management, Pune, explained the research methodology in detail to the participants. During various sessions, he threw light on aspects of research and answered questions from students.


Students of the KLE Society’s Institute of Management Studies and Research (IMSR) had the opportunity to interact with Praveen Gupta, Senior Manager (HR-Karnataka, Kerala) of Aditya Birla Retail Group last week.

Addressing them, Mr. Gupta spoke about the retail sector, the challenges involved, employment opportunities, and skills required to be in the sector.

“As a beginner, your focus should be on learning. Earning will automatically follow”. He asked the budding managers to identify areas that required improvement and to chalk out their action plans accordingly. Director of IMSR P.B. Roodagi and Sudhakar of the Aditya Birla Retail Group were present.


Students of Oxford College for BBA, BCA and B.Com won prizes at management fest “MAGSCAN-09” held at Bijapur recently. While Kaushik Mane won the “Best Manager” prize in the event, the college team won second prizes in certain cultural competitions and the “Ice-Breaker” event, Chairman of the college Vasanth Horatti and Director R.V. Dadibhavi have said in a release.

Help for flood-hit

Meanwhile, setting an example, the students of the Department of Political Science at Karnatak University, spent a part of their pocket money to help flood-affected people. Led by the Chairman of the Department, Harish Ramaswamy, and advocate B.P. Hallur, they visited Mummaraddy Koppa in Badami taluk recently and distributed bedsheets to the families.
