KARNATAKA

A futile wait

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: A group of presspersons descended on the Bajpe airport near here to cover the scheduled review meeting of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa with officials on the loss and damage caused by heavy rain in Dakshina Kannada, on Saturday. Equally present in large numbers were officers from various departments.

Though Mr. Kumaraswamy and his entourage were scheduled to land at the airport at 11 a.m., there was no sign of the helicopter, which was supposed to bring them from Shimoga, even after 12.30 p.m. Officials were busy attempting to make contact with their counterparts in Shimoga to ascertain the Chief Minister’s location and presspersons were accordingly kept updated. It was Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty who put an end to the endless wait at 12.15 p.m. by announcing that the helicopter which took off from Shimoga had been diverted to Kumarapatna in Davangere district due to inclement weather.
