In a major security lapse on the part of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Kempegowda International Airport, seven passengers in two different groups entered the domestic security area and proceeded to the boarding gate without being frisked.
The incident happened on Monday at 9 p.m. The security lapse came to light after Indigo airline staff noticed four women passengers at the boarding gate without security stamps on their boarding passes. They were later brought to the domestic security hold area to stamp the boarding pass and allowed to board the Pune-bound flight.
However, a second group consisting of two men and a woman managed to board the flight to Nagpur, after airline staff did not notice that their boarding passes were not stamped.
The office of the Additional Director General (airport sector) of CISF sought a reply on the incidents from the DIG/CASO ASG Bengaluru. The letter dated June 18 states that seven passengers approached screening point in domestic security hold area, kept their belongings for screening, and came to the frisking booth for security check.
The booth was not manned at that time and the passengers entered the domestic security area without any being frisked/checked.
The letter further states that the two flights landed safety at their destinations.
The headquarters has also sought detailed corrective measures taken and CCTV footage of the incident.
