54 stray cattle rounded up

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: The three-day drive against stray cattle in the twin cities ended on Friday with the corporation staff rounding up as many as 54 stray cattle.

The drive carried out under police protection was restricted to morning hours, when vehicular traffic was comparatively less on the main roads.

It was a difficult task for the corporation employees, as they were “not trained” for the job. At some places, residents came to their help in catching the stray cattle.

All the stray cattle caught by the corporation staff were transported to the Pinjarapol on Karwar Road, where they would be looked after by the Hubli Panjarpol Sanstha.

The corporation had issued strict warning that once the cattle was taken, it would be transported to Pinjarapol.

It was the second time that the corporation had launched such a drive. Although the HDMC had earlier announced a scheme of giving cash prize to those rounding up and transporting stray cattle to Pinjarapol, it hadn’t taken off because of poor response from public.
