They allegedly wanted to put their superior in trouble

Four constables and a sub-inspector attached to Kumaraswamy Layout police station have been suspended allegedly for stealing a double barrel rifle from the premises.

They allegedly stole the rifle from the station in a bid to put their superior in trouble. They claimed that they were facing harassment from him.

According to officials, the accused hatched a plot with the intention of framing the inspector for theft.

The rifle was among the several firearms deposited by the public during the Assembly elections. The firearms were under the supervision of Sub-inspector Suma. Constables Anand Kolekar, Paramananda Koti, Ashok Biradar and Basavaraju allegedly executed the theft, in collusion with Sub-inspector Suma.

When the firearms had to be returned to the owners after the elections, one rifle was missing. When an internal inquiry was initiated, the rifle was found in the station.

Finding something fishy, senior officials conducted a thorough enquiry. When everyone in the station was questioned, the constables confessed to stealing the rifle, officials in the department said.

DCP (South) S.D. Sharanappa said the personnel had been suspended.
