The event aims at creating awareness about science among high school students

Chitradurga: In the first district-level science exhibition organised by the Department of Public Instruction, students from around 350 High Schools of the district participated on Thursday.

The objective of the exhibition was to create awareness about science and to impart practical knowledge of the subject students learn in schools.

Speaking to The Hindu, nodal officer of the programme K.P. Obaiah said that students face difficulty in writing answers in exams to questions related to scientific experiments. But, if such exhibitions are held often, students understand the subject better. The event also gives students opportunities to exhibit their talent.

He said that the High Schools of the district were informed and instructed about the programme about 15 days ago. They were asked to identify students who were interested to participate in the exhibition and help them in selecting topic and preparing the models.

The models were prepared were mainly on topics related to Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. “The students who prepare models, in turn explain its importance and functioning to other students of the school. The interaction between them helps in understanding the subject better”, he said.

Mr. Obaiah said that though no prizes were announced at the district-level for the best models, some of the private schools had announced prizes to encourage the students to participate in the exhibition.

He said that the department had received an encouraging response with regard to participation. Models on various subjects such as solar, wind energy, environment protection, rainwater harvesting and satellites were on display.
