More than 30 villages were covered

GULBARGA: The 25-day padayatra undertaken by the Afzalpur Taluk Abhivruddhi Horata Samiti, covering more than 30 villages to create awareness among the people on the need for the development of the taluk, concluded on Monday with leaders of the samiti submitting a detailed memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

The padayatra was led by Congress leader Hanumanthrao Desai and president of the samiti Suryakant Nakedar. The padayatra, which began on January 1 from Hosur, the last village in Afzalpur taluk on the Maharashtra border, went through Sheshagiriwadi, Mannur, Ramnagar, Mashal, Karajgi, Ashoknagar, Havanur, Garur, Minagiji, Tad Tegnur, Farhatabad, Sirnoor, Itaga and Kotnur Math areas.

Mr. Desai and Mr. Nakedar said the main purpose of the padayatra was to highlight the backwardness of Afzalpur taluk and create awareness on the people’s right to a better life. One of the glaring deficiencies noticed during the padayatra, according to Mr. Desai, was the absence of good roads throughout the taluk. “Most of the villages do not have pucca approach roads, while those connecting the district headquarters too are in poor shape,” he said.

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, Mr. Desai and Mr. Nakedar highlighted the requirements of various villages which they saw during the padayatra.
