BANGALORE: Twelve candidates from Karnataka have made it to the All-India Civil Services Examination 2008, the results of which were declared on Monday.

The topper for the State is Soumya C., who secured the 11th rank. She is now working with the Customs Department in Chennai.

The others who have made it are Vijay Kiran (32nd rank), Ravi (36th), Shilpa Prabhakar (46th), Vinay T.G. (50th), Venkatesh (76th), Sharanappa S.D. (86th), M.N. Anuchet (100th), Dr. Srinivas (149th), Harish (186th), Prasanna (362nd) and Priyadarshini Baseganni (378th).

Dr. Vinay told The Hindu that persistence and support from members of his family brought him success.

His father Gangadharaiah is a retired teacher, his mother Geeta is a homemaker and older brother Satish is a dentist.

“Normally, the family members would have expected an MBBS doctor like me to pursue higher education. But in my case, they supported my effort wholeheartedly,” said Dr. Vinay, who made it in his fourth attempt.

Mr. Anuchet is the younger son of senior IPS officer M.C. Narayana Gowda.

Mr. Gowda said that his son, who secured second rank in B.E., from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2006, concentrated on preparing for the civil services and did not take up a job.
