11 arrested in connection with Kamaripet case

The accused were wanted for throwing stones at a police party

HUBLI: As many as 11 persons were arrested and remanded in judicial custody in connection with the stone-throwing on police jeeps in the Kamaripet area during the raids on matka dens on August 12.

The names of the arrested were given as Deepak Vishwanathsa Khode, Vinayak Dattusa Dalbanjan, Shankarsa Ambasa Habib, Anand Ambasa Habib, Vinod Ambasa Habib, Manjunath Maniksa Jaratarghar, Sunil Metrani, Nilkanth, Arjunsa Metrani, Ramesh Hanumanthsa Khode and Jaggu Miskin.

Three more persons wanted in connection with the incident are said to be at large.

On the night of August 12, a police team had gone to conduct raids on matka dens in the Kamaripet area. When the team was about to catch those running matka, they threw stones at the police party and managed to escape.

There was tension for a while in the area and senior police officials had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control. A case has been registered at the Kamaripet Police Station.

Seized

The Kalghatgi Police have seized spirit worth Rs. 5 lakhs being transported allegedly for manufacture of illicit liquor, on Thursday.

The police said that an oil tanker has been seized. The driver and cleaner of the tanker managed to escape during the raid, they said. A case has been registered at the Kalghatgi Police Station.
