`Loan scheme is of no help to farmers'

DAVANGERE: The scheme to lend loan at four per cent interest to farmers in the State is of little help to the beneficiaries as it sets a deadline of 12 months to repay the loan amount to get the four per cent interest benefit.

The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) criticised the Government for stipulating the deadline to repay the loan amount to get the benefit. Farmers failing to repay the loan amount within 12 months had to pay the normal interest rate of over 11 per cent.

Chukki Nanjundaswamy, working president of the sangha, and K.T. Gangadhar, general secretary, said here on Thursday that the Government had concealed the guidelines of the scheme. The scheme would be of no help to the poor and marginal farmers unless the condition was withdrawn.
