ZP chief's remark sparks furore

GUNTUR, JULY 24. The Congress MLAs from Guntur district, who were attending the Zilla Parishad general body meeting on Saturday, took strong exception to the statement of the Zilla Parishad Chairman, Pathuri Nagabhushanam's, that they have to learn the niceties of the House.

During a heated exchange between the Congress and TDP members just before the close of the discussion on the irrigation water for the Krishna Delta, the Repalle MLA, Devineni Mallikarjuna Rao, addressed the Chairman in first person, while trying to prevail upon him to give a chance to an MPP, Ratna Rao, to speak.

MLAs protest

Mr. Pathuri Nagabhushanam did not react immediately, but later said that since all the MLAs were new to the Assembly, they had to learn the niceties of behaving in the House, which angered all the MLAs and they gathered at the podium and staged a protest.

The issue, however, was sorted out.
