YSR to unveil Anjaiah's statue on August 16

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will unveil former Chief Minister T. Anjaiah's statue at Lumbini Park, near the Secretariat, on August 16, to coincide with his 87th birth anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the park will be renamed T. Anjiah Lumbini Park, according to Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhan Reddy.

Mr. Reddy and T. Manemma, Anjiah's widow, told reporters here on Sunday that it was a dream come true for lakhs of workers that the statue of their beloved leader was being unveiled.

Mr. Reddy said the statue was made in Rajahmundry and the Government took care of the cost. He said AICC general secretary incharge of State affairs Digvijay Singh and APCC president K. Keshava Rao would attend the function.

Mr. Reddy said Anjaiah rose from a worker in Allwyn to become a trade union leader, Union Labour Minister and then Chief Minister. He was instrumental in doubling the bonus for industrial workers to 8.33 per cent, he observed.
