YSR questions youth policy

HYDERABAD, FEB. 26. The Congress leader, Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy, has accused the State Government of announcing the youth empowerment policy with an eye on the elections.

In a statement here on Thursday, he said the haste with which the Government announced the policy showed that it was not sincere. He asked the Government to explain why it had announced the policy in a caretaker capacity and not all these nine years if it was sincere about the welfare of youth.

He said the policy lacked clarity and contained no concrete measures for development of the youth. What was the use in announcing the empowerment policy when nothing was achieved under the employment generation mission launched in 2001, he asked. He charged the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu, with playing with the lives of the youth by giving the go-by to the 1999 election promise of creating 10 lakh jobs every year.

He said the Chief Minister, who frequently talked of "Swarnandhrapradesh" had turned the State into "Nirudyog Pradesh".
