Youth held, stolen cars recovered

HYDERABAD, MARCH 11. A youth, Meer Mohammed alias Ajju, who allegedly committed several offences in and around Hyderabad, was arrested by the Hyderabad Detective Department on Friday.

Nine stolen cars worth Rs. 18 lakhs were recovered from him, the Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police (crimes), Rajiv Trivedi, told a press conference here. Two of Ajju's close associates -- Fayaz and Jakir -- were arrested earlier. Other members of Ajju's gang -- Salam, Ismail, Sherief and Arshad -- were still at large.

Ajju and his gang were accused of involvement in 23 crimes, including chain-snatching, robbery, dacoity and attempt to murder. A special party of the Detective Department, led by Inspector, I.T.V.S. Suryanarayana, rounded him up near Golconda while he was fleeing to Gulbarga in a stolen van.
