Writer Malathi Chandur dead

Malathi Chandur  

Popular Telugu writer, novelist and columnist, Malathi Chandur, died following prolonged illness in Chennai on Wednesday. She was 84-years-old.

Her most singular contribution to Telugu readers was the introduction of classics in English and other languages through the monthly column ‘Paathakeratulu’ in Swathi magazine.

Cookery book

Another of her weekly columns ‘Pramadaavanam’ became highly popular as she used to answer queries and give advice on a wide range of subjects, including social and personal issues. Her book on cookery was also a big hit.

Besides penning short stories, she also wrote novels which include ‘Champakam’, ‘Cheedapurugulu’, ‘Alochinchu’ and ‘Sadyogam’.

She was the recipient of many awards, including those conferred by Kendriya Sahitya Academy, A.P. Sahitya Academy and ‘Kalaprapoorna’ by Padmavathi Mahila University.
