Workshop against child marriages

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Krishna district, in association with the NGOs — Mahita and Plan India — organised a workshop on prevention of child marriages and child trafficking in Machilipatnam on Tuesday. DLSA secretary P.R. Rajeev, Mahita State Coordinator Gode Prasad, officials from Education, Revenue, Women Development and Child Welfare Departments participated in the programme.

Mr. Rajiv explained about the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006 and the consequences if a minor was married. Mr. Prasad said the Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) was a programme designed to address the problems of adolescent girls and to avoid child trafficking, child marriages, sexual harassment and exploitation.
