Worker dies as diesel tanks explode

HYDERABAD MAY 9. A child labourer died and two persons sustained serious injuries when the diesel tanks of two lorries exploded while carrying out welding work under the Chandrayanagutta police station limits on Thursday.

While a worker of the mechanic shed, Osman (10), died on the spot, another worker, Azeem (11) and a mechanic, Mohd. Pasha, sustained serious injuries.

The police said that the explosion took place when the flames came in contact with the diesel tank of the lorry. The flames spread to another lorry parked beside it and it also gutted.

Suicide bid

Two nursing students of Osmania Nursing College reportedly attempted suicide on Wednesday in the nursing hostel located on the Osmania General Hospital premises.

Body identified

The Saifabad police on Thursday identified the victim, who committed suicide by self-immolation on Thursday in Mint Compound, as a watchman, Anjaiah. The police said that the victim was a resident of Indiranagar of Khairatabad. He was working as a watchman in the office of an Assistant Divisional Engineer in the Mint Compound.

Death remains mystery

The death of two teenaged girls, whose bodies were found lying by the roadside under suspicious circumstances on Wednesday night, is baffling the Rajendranagar police.

The deceased were identified as a widow, Kalpana (18) and her relative, Santoshi (16), of Peddashapur and Jiyaguda villages respectively. The Osmania General Hospital doctors conducted post-mortem on the bodies and the police handed over them to their relatives on Thursday.
