“Dance is a divine art form and it helps realise one’s self”

A four-day 5th Vysakhi Nrityotsavam got off to a glittering start at Kalabharati here on Saturday evening. Speaking on the occasion Minster for Ports Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that Kuchipudi dance was our proud legacy and we should spare no effort to preserve it for posterity and promote it on international fora. Dance is a divine art form and it helps realise one’s self, he added. Our traditional art forms such as Kuchipudi dance combine our mythology and ethical values, he said.

He complimented the organisers for the mega event. He presented Vysakhi Excellence Award-2012 to Pasumarthi Kesav Prasad and Natyasri award to Kuchipudi exponent Anupama Mohan respectively and felicitated them. Renowned film director K. Viswanadh said classical arts were divine art forms and witnessing diverse dance forms in festivals like this widen the horizons of one’s understating of culture and tradition. Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax B. Satyanarayana and principal of Andhra University Arts College A. Srirama Murthy spoke.
