KARIMNAGAR: Villagers along the banks of Godavari in Ibrahimpatnam and Gollapalli mandals formed a human chain across the dried up riverbed on Saturday at Ganganala and Valigonda projects respectively.

It was a symbolic gesture to pressurise the State Government to execute small check-dams on Godavari for proper utilisation of the river water,

Stressing the importance of constructing step-ladder projects with zero submergence, the villagers wanted the Government to stop `illegal projects' in Maharashtra, which were detrimental to the interests of Telangana farmers. The BJP district unit organised the programme under the supervision of former Union Minister, Ch.Vidyasagar Rao. Mr. Rao flayed the Government for neglecting projects in Telangana.

The small projects on Godavari could ensure navigational facilities, water percolation along the shores, production of fish worth crores of rupees as well as optimum utilisation of Godavari waters, he said. Villagers performed special prayers at the temple for early monsoon in Valigonda of Gollapalli. About 116 `homans' and `kum kum archanas' were performed.
