Vijayawada boy tops GATE

VIJAYAWADA: Koganti Venkata Harikrishna, a B. Tech final year student of V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College here, has emerged all India top ranker in this year's Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted for admission to PG courses in the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, on February 12.

Mr. Harikrishna, who appeared for the examination in electrical engineering, secured 1,000 out of the maximum 1,000 and became the sole top ranker in all streams put together.

At a press conference on Thursday, Mr. Harikrishna said that he intended to join the IISc, Bangalore, to pursue M.Tech in VLSI design in view of the emerging job opportunities in the field. He said he had worked hard to improve upon his last year's rank of 70, and coaching at Saimedha coaching centre here helped him in his endeavour.
