Urban waste management project launch today

TIRUPATI. Nov 29. An `innovative' project-- Achieving Action in Waster Management (AAWaM) formulated by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests in partnership with UNDP would be put on stream in Tirupati from tomorrow.

According to the Project Officer, C. Vasu, the programme aims at creating awareness and action specifically in the field of waste management as part of the Eco-city project sanctioned to Tirupati. The other organisation collaborating in the programme are Small Grants Programme, GTZ-ASEM, Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and Tirupati Municipality.

As a prelude to the launch, the CEE's Field Office here has organised a rally today which started from the municipal office and culminated at the Core Zone Area of the Eco-city project. Students of the local colleges and schools besides the elite of the town led by the Municipal Chairman, K. Sankar Reddy, participated in the rally.
