Two naxals killed in exchange of fire

WARANGAL: Two naxals belonging to the Prathighatana group were killed in an exchange of fire with the police in the wee hours of Saturday at Bhupalpally town.

According to the Superintendent of Police, M. S. Ravindra, following the bandh call given by the Janashakti, the police undertook extensive search operations across the district as a precautionary measure.

House-to-house search

On a tip off, a group of policemen were conducting house-to-house search at Bhupalpalli town late on Friday night.

The two naxals who were taking shelter in a house suddenly opened fire at the policemen. The police too retaliated and during the firing that lasted for about 20 minutes, the naxals were killed.

Arms seized

They were identified as Prathighatana action team commander, Ramesh alias Kranthi, a native of Ippalapalli village, and action team member, Ravi alias Hanumanthu of Beddalapalli of Bhupalpalli mandal. The police recovered two pistols and 9mm carbine from the spot.

The Mulugu ASP, Rajesh Kumar, the Bhupalpalli CI, P. Shobhan Kumar, and other officials reached the spot on Saturday morning.
