Trader `kills' 3 kids, ends life

MAHBUBNAGAR OCT. 26. A businessman hailing from Savayigudem village in Wanaparthy mandal allegedly killed his three children by administering a pesticide and committed suicide later by consuming the chemical himself late on Friday night in a rented house in Wanaparthy town of Mahbubnagar district.

According to the police, R. Venugopal Shetty (47) came to Wanaparthy on Friday evening to take his children to his village for Deepavali. The children were staying in Wanaparthy for their studies. Late in the evening, he is believed to have used a syringe to administer a pesticide to his children - Chandan kumar (11), Bhargavi (10) and Swetha (9). Police found the syringe with traces of the chemical in the house.

Police said initial enquiries revealed that Shetty was depressed after losing a court case over some family property and believe this to be the reason for taking his life and that of the children. Venugopal Shetty's father, Venkata Shetty, came to Wanaparthy in search of his son and found the bodies. He informed the police and a case has been registered at Wanaparthy rural police station.
