They are in for VIP treatment

HYDERABAD, OCT.11. Top leaders of the People's War and the Janashakti will head from the harsh terrain of the jungle to the cosy comfort of the air-conditioned State guest house, Manjeera, where they would be put up during the historic peace talks with the Government, beginning October 15.

With the extremist leaders and 35 of their security personnel expected to arrive early on Tuesday, a host of officials, including those from the protocol and police wings, descended on the guesthouse today and began making arrangements for ensuring a comfortable stay for the State guests.

Rooms blocked

The guesthouse was spruced up and half of the total 32 rooms -- eight each on second and third floors -- have been blocked for providing accommodation to them and securitymen. In fact, the accommodation for the Congress MLA, Dronamraju Satyanarayana, and an IAS officer, who were staying on the second floor, were requested to shift.

Additional cots and beds have been requisitioned from another guesthouse and five beds placed in each room.

Like the security drill undertaken before the arrival of a VIP, the police sanitised the guesthouse by pressing a sniffer dog and bomb detection squads into service. A metal detector was placed at the entrance and those entering the guesthouse were frisked.

While the naxalite leaders and their representatives will be staying for at least three or four days, the period of their accommodation would be extended if there was "requirement," an official of the Protocol department said.

Talks venue

Meanwhile, the venue of the talks is likely to be the erstwhile Legislative Council hall or the Marri Channa Reddy Institute of Human Resource Development, according to official sources.
