VISAKHAPATNAM: The camp of Telugu Desam Party councillors elected for Bheemunipatnam Municipality was shifted from Annavaram to the city on Thursday.

According to party sources, several rounds of confabulations were made to arrive at a consensus for the selection of candidate for the post of chairperson. Elections will be held on Friday after administering oath among members of the council.

Party sources said that Chokkapu Padmavathi Naidu and Koppala Prabhavathi are being shortlisted for the top post. A whip will be issued just before the commencement of the meeting.

While the TDP has 17 councillors in the house of 28, the Congress has 10 members.

The lone Independent, Mylapalli Laxman Rao, is a Congress rebel and is being lured by both the camps.

``Our party does not want to take any chances. Hence, we are organising a camp for our councillors to prevent being influenced by the Congress,'' a TDP leader said on condition of anonymity.

The MLAs have voting power, as per a recent GO.

Among others, senior TDP leaders M.V.V.S. Murthi, Palla Simhachalam, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, S.A. Rehaman and R.S.D.P.A. Narasimha Raju held meetings with the councillors at a star hotel.
