Team Kolkata emerges victorious in quiz contest

Schoolchildren from across the nation vie with one another for the coveted position

Soham Chowdhury and Srijit Basu from Don Bosco School, Kolkata, emerged winners of the 2013 edition of Aqua Regia – the science quiz, the national finals of which were held in the city on Wednesday.

Abhirami G. and Amrut representing Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School, Calicut, and Sharat Chander and Archit T from GKD School, Coimbatore, finished as the first and second runners-up respectively in this keenly fought competition.

The event was conducted by T.I.M.E., a leading test-prep institution, and it was open for students of class VIII, IX, and X. Regional rounds were held in 27 cities across the country.

Winners were felicitated by the founder directors of TIME, Manek N. Daruvala and P. Viswanath. The winning team of the national-level final was presented with laptops while the first and second runner-up teams were presented with Ipods.

Earlier, teams from the city also competed for a place in the national final.

A.D. Aakash N. and Karthik Nagraj from Vikas Concept School, Kukatpally were the eventual winners. Kanav Dang and K.P. Prathik of Army Public School, RK Puram, finished second while Ameya V. and Anupam Mishra from Vasavi Public School, Himayatnagar, emerged third.

Ajay Antony was the quiz master.
