TDP stalls House proceedings

HYDERABAD, MARCH 17. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members stalled the Assembly proceedings for 20 minutes during Zero Hour on Thursday insisting on a reply or an assurance by the Government on the problems by faced by farmers in the State regarding minimum support price.

Holding aloft placards, they stood in between the aisles threatening to move onto the well.

They recalled a promise made by the Government a week ago during a debate to come back on the issue.

The Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, appealed to the Telugu Desam members to relent saying that they could raise the issue during the reply by the Government on agriculture demands.

He asked Y. Ramakrishnudu (TDP) whether it was proper on his part to seek a reply during Zero Hour.

Mr Ramakrishnudu contended that such a demand was not out of place because the issue was related to "a serious matter".

However, he said he would have no objection if the Agriculture Minister responded to their demand during the budget debate.

Upon this, the agitated Telugu Desam members resumed their seats.
