`Swarnima' to work for minority women

MANGALORE MARCH 30 . The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited will implement the "Swarnima" scheme aimed at ameliorating the condition of women of minority community.

Under the scheme, women from Jain, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Parsi, and Anglo-Indian communities will be provided 50 per cent subsidy and an equal amount as loan to take up self-employment.

The Chairman of the corporation, Sulaiman U. Talkhani, told presspersons here on Saturday that the corporation would distribute 317 autorickshaws to the beneficiaries in the presence of the Chief Minister in Bangalore next month.

Noting that the aim of the corporation was to ensure economic well-being of minorities, he said it promoted training of beneficiaries under various vocational courses.

The corporation also extended a loan of Rs. 10,000 to small businessmen to start their own venture. It provided educational loan of Rs. 25,000 under the "Arivu" scheme. Beneficiaries could repay the amount after completing their education.
