Summer camps for children

HYDERABAD: With vacation starting on April 23, the Jawahar Bal Bhavan is all set to start its summer camps for children. Apart from its main campus at Public Gardens, the Bal Bhavan will organise the camps in six centres in the city from April 25.

The Bal Bhavan had conducted summer camps in L.B.Nagar, Safilguda and Kukatpally areas last year on an experimental basis last year.

"As the camps evoked good response, we increased the number to six centres this year," said Jawahar Bal Bhavan Director M.K.Ramu.

Experts' training

The camps focus on developing creative talents and will have games and personality development programmes.

They will conclude on June 5 with `Vasanthotsavam' at Public Gardens where children from all the centres would present a variety of cultural programmes.

Children would be trained by experts in dance - classical and folk, music - classical and light, instrumental music - tabla, veena and mrudangam, drawing and painting, indoor games like chess, carrom, and table tennis apart from yoga, physical training.

Experts will deliver lectures on a variety of topics, with emphasis on character building and communication skills, Dr. Ramu said.

Children in the age group of 5 to 16 years can choose any two activities in the creative performance category, any number of indoor games besides personality development programmes. To participate in the summer camp, one should take Bal Bhavan membership by paying a fee of Rs.50.

About 5,000 children are expected to enrol for the summer camps in all the centres including about 1,500 children in the main centre.
