Massive rallies, dharnas by employees of organised, unorganised sectors

RAJAHMUNDRYT: Work in banking industry, insurance companies and all the industries in East Godavari district came to standstill as 40 thousand workforce abstained from duties in responding to general strike call.

The employees, NGOs, teachers and large number of workers from organised and unorganised sectors participated in a huge rally in the city.

Employees working in different sectors took part in the rally from Kotipalli bus stand and bank employees from Kambalacheruvu.

UPA appeasing capitalists

Speaking in a meeting at SBI Kambalacheruvu branch, K. Sarraju, Vice-President of SBI Staff Union (Hyderabad Circle) said that, they have boycotted duties, protesting against the Union Government's view to privatise banks and withdrawal of compassionate appointments in banks, not providing second option for pension and other issues. He alleged that the UPA Government had taken policy decisions against the interests of the working class and it is appeasing capitalists.

Officer's Union branch office bearers, PV Sarma, D. Sivasuryudu, K. Srinivasa Murthy, Hussain and others spoke on this occasion.

In a public meeting organised at Kotagummam, Ch. S. Edison Babu, NGO leader, A. Ramarayudu, JAC Chairman and IFTU leader K. Joji, AIKMS district secretary M. Durgaprasad, CITU leader TS Praskah, AITUC leader Nalla Ramarao and others spoke on the reasons for going for strike.

The leaders said that crores of workers in the country will loose their jobs, if the present Government continues goes ahead with the decision and the strike is a warning to the Government in taking policy decisions.

INTUC, BMS stay away

Kakinada: All the Central and State Government employees besides the banks and insurance companies joined the strike here. However, the INTUC, BMS and PRTU affiliated unions stayed away from the strike.

The Collectorate also wore a deserted look with the Joint action committee leaders Achanta Ramarayudu, Buriga Aseervadam, Vadrevu Sambasivarao went round the offices and ensured the employees to join the stir. The Postal employees and also the Port employees took part in the general strike. All the employees have taken out a rally from the Head Post office and after passing through the main streets of the city have staged a protest demonstration in front of the Collectorate. The demonstrators raised slogans against disinvestment policy of the Government. The East Godavari district Bank employees Coordination committee claimed that the general strike had been a total success in the Port City.

RAJAHMUNDRYT: he response to the strike in Vizianagaram was total in the district. Bank operations in all the national bank branches, including cooperative sector, were seriously affected as the employee's stayed away from work. The bank employees staged protest demonstrations at the SBI main branch.
