NIZAMABAD: Zilla Parishad members have urged the Government to release water for irrigation through different projects till April 15 as the rabi crop will come for harvest by then.

Participating in a discussion on agriculture and irrigation at ZP general body meeting held here on Saturday, many ZPTC members observed that water if given till March end as decided in the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting last month would not be of much use to farmers.

In response to the members' demand, district Collector I.S. Sri Naresh explained them that the board had decided to release water up to April first week. "If this need to be amended the proposal should come in the board meeting again", he added.

Joint Director (Agriculture) Narendranath Reddy said paddy, bengalgram, blackgram, greengram, maize and sunflower seed was supplied on subsidy basis to sow in the rabi season. Similarly, efforts were being made to supply 1.62 tonnes of fertilizers in the season.

Replying to a question, the Collector said, as many as 769 houses for beedi workers had been at different stages of constructions and some more houses would be sanctioned under other schemes. Houses would be constructed to those who lost them in the recent heavy rains, he said.

He said the district had been in the second place in the implementation of housing schemes. Under 25np interest rate, Rs.75 crore loans were distributed to women Self Help Groups this year so far.ZP Chairperson G. Anita, vice-chairman Tahar Bin Ahmad and DCCB Chairman Y. Raji Reddy attended.
