`Spandana only for grievance redress'

VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 24. The district Collector, Praveen Prakash, has appealed to the people to make use of the weekly meeting `Spandana' for redress of grievances but not for submitting applications for house-sites, ration cards, old-age pensions etc.

In a press statement here today, he said that officials were not able to attend to grievances of people because they were being flooded with applications seeking individual benefits. He said there was no scope for sanctioning house-sites in Visakhapatnam and Gajuwaka areas.

Houses under VAMBAY

Officials themselves would visit slum areas and enrol eligible families for sanctioning pucca houses under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY). About 7600 families had been sanctioned houses under the scheme till now.

No new ration cards are being sanctioned now. Though there were only 8.87 lakh families in the district as per 2001 census, 10.33 lakh ration cards had been issued till now. Applications for self-employment schemes would be called by concerned departments like SETWIN, DRDA, SC Corporation, BC Corporation etc.

Old-age pension

Officials have already prepared the list of eligible persons for sanctioning old-age pension. They would get pension as and when vacancies arose.

If officials have not responded to their grievances at mandal and division levels in the given time, people can bring the same to the notice of district officials at Spandana. Grievances relating to non-issue of pattadar passbooks and ration can be raised at Spandana. Similarly land disputes if not resolved locally can be brought to the notice of officials at Spandana.

Also, those who fail to get education and health facilities can raise their problems.

Mr. Praveen Prakash urged the people to get these problems resolved at Spandana meetings convened every Monday in the Collector`s office here.
